Welcome to the IFPA’s October Newsletter

October is a change of season, and you can see the explosion of autumn’s colours just about everywhere. It is also a time when our bodies go through seasonal change and our skin adjusts to the drier weather. A good essential oil comes to mind during this time – Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea tree). It has universal healing properties, and, like Lavender, it is known as the ‘miracle oil’. Use it for its many benefits such as to help keep the odd sniffle away…

Embracing change by Christine Courtney

Change can often be a challenge, but I also find it to be an exhilarating force that propels me beyond the familiar and into a world of new possibilities. Whether I’m navigating the unknown with trepidation or excitement, it’s during these moments of transition that I discover incredible opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Embracing change allows me to unlock potential I never knew I had. Whether it’s mastering a new skill, adapting to shifting circumstances, or re-evaluating my routines, change invites me to stay flexible, strengthen my resilience, and unleash my creativity.

In the midst of change, Aromatherapy remains a steadfast ally for me. The unchanging power of essential oils to ground, uplift, and comfort is a gift I never take for granted. Blended essential oils offer me a natural way to maintain equilibrium during times of transition. However, there are times when I cannot blend for myself, and in these times, I lean on my community. Regular treatments with a trusted Aromatherapist become essential – not only for the healing touch of massage, but, also for the insightful guidance they provide from a perspective outside my own.

I always have a personal inhaler tucked somewhere on my person! This ensures that I have a tool to ground and reassure me, no matter where I am. I also find Bach Flower remedies to be a wonderful complement to essential oils, offering additional support during life’s transitions.

Self-care is another crucial component of how I embrace change. By setting aside time for reflection, I create space to assess where I am, where I want to go, and whether the journey is worth the effort. Self-care is not merely a luxury; it’s an essential practice that nurtures my body, mind, and spirit, empowering me to face whatever life brings my way. I find that slowing down and mindfully selecting essential oils for my daily diffuser transforms this simple act into a powerful ritual of self-care.

As I navigate the ever-evolving landscape of my life, I want to continue to embrace change and all the wonderful possibilities it brings. But one thing I know for sure, I will always lean into the enduring support of Aromatherapy.

Pomegranate seed oil (Punica granatum)

Pomegranate seed oil stands out due to its high content of punicic acid (75%), a rare component exclusive to this oil. Punicic acid has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and cell-regenerating properties, making pomegranate seed oil exceptional for skin care. The oil stimulates the skin’s natural repair processes, enhances collagen production, and improves skin elasticity. It protects against damage from UV rays, environmental stress, and pollution.

Due to its skin-soothing properties, pomegranate seed oil is ideal for sensitive skin, whether used in a soothing massage or in formulations for post-shave, post-depilation, and after-sun care. The oil’s skin-healing properties make it beneficial in formulations for wounds, burns, scars, and stretch marks. A precious ingredient in anti-aging preparations, the oil is appreciated for its ability to plump the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Pomegranate seed oil has a viscous feel, so it is best mixed with lighter oils.

The CO2 extract is more stable (2 years) than conventional oil (6 months).
