Macmillan Cancer Centre

The UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre will open in April 2012. This brand new, purpose-built facility will redefine cancer care by putting the needs of patients at the centre of everything we do. Highly specialist staff and trained volunteers will provide care from cancer-specific zones, ensuring that patients have immediate access to the very best treatment, support and advice for their particular type of cancer.
Volunteers will be a key part of the team of staff and healthcare professionals, helping to ensure that each patient, their carers and loved ones receives the very best treatment, information, care and support. Roles range from greeting visitors when they first arrive and guiding them round to providing information and support or complementary therapies. More information can be found on our website or by contacting us on the details below:
http://www.uclh.nhs.uk/OurServices/OurHospitals/CC/Pages/VolunteersCancerCentre.aspx
I have attached a role description for the complementary therapy position that we are hoping to fill. This opportunity could be especially attractive to those qualified professionals that are looking to start practising in a clinical environment or as part of career / personal development.
If you want to be part of this groundbreaking service or have any questions get in touch at cancer.centre@ulch.nhs.uk or call Naomi Neiland on 0203 4477360.

IFPA Clinical Guidelines for Safe Practice

The recent work on clinical guidelines in Pregnancy are now available to download from the website. The cancer guidelines have been well recieved by members and are now also free to download. Council support the importance of safety in practice and the guidelines are to be a continued work for council. We recognise the wealth of expertise within the membership and have decided to invite members to contribute this expertise to share with others. Working with babies and young children is often a client group some therapists have little or no experience since qualifying and the IFPA would welcome practitioners who have experience and knowledge to contribute to compliling a set of guidelines. If you feel you would be interested please contact and send your CV and any relevant information to IFPA CPD Chair, Penny Price who is co-ordinating this activity by the 1st December, either by e-mail or post. Penny will put together a working group in the new year and work will be co-ordinated via e-mail as much as possible.
